Alpacas for Pets

Alpacas make great pets. Their intelligent, inquisitive natures mean they have personality plus – they are the ultimate pet with attitude. Wethers - neutered males – are fantastic for pets and all Cresta Viento wethers have been halter trained and shown, so they’re used to being handled.

You need 2 or more alpacas for pets as they will die of loneliness on their own. They are excellent animals for small blocks as they thrive on any type of pasture and limited attention with a stock rate of 4-5 alpacas per acre. If they are kept near the house and fed some supplements, like multifeed nuts, chaffage or hay, they become very tame and will come at the sound of your voice.

Alpacas are inquisitive and will investigate different people or things nearby – Linley’s cats “Kamo” and "Leo" are favourite paddock visitors at Cresta Viento! With an average lifespan of 15-20 years your alpacas will be part of the family for a long time.

Cresta Viento Alpacas has a number of wethers for sale, for pets and fibre. Owning your own alpacas is a great way to have a ready supply of alpaca fibre for spinning, felting and craft-work.

Take your pick of the bunch with alpaca males priced from $1200 for 2; $1600 for 3; or $2000 for 4 (all prices are inclusive of GST).
